In 1943 she was chartered by the US Wartime Shipping Administration on a bare-boat charter to the Ministry of War Transport, London UK (McCowen & Gross Ltd., mgrs.).

Significance of Name A fur trade post established in 1846 by the Hudson's Bay Company, in what is now Saskatchewan.
 
Anecdotes
The Heritagegateway.org.uk stated "Lend-Lease - The 'lease-lend' terms under most of these were transferred meant that 'the owner supplied the ship, but the charterer [supplied and equipped] the vessel with all fuel, chandlery, hardware . . . and other expendable supplies. When the ship [was] returned to the owner, a reverse adjustment [was] made for fuel and supplies which remain[ed] on board." On March 30, 1943 this vessel was torpedoed by a submarine in the Mediterannean northwest of Algiers, Algeria by U.596 in 36.52N 01.47E on voyage Bona - Gibraltar.
