| John Fremont reports that "My uncle, Alan J. Napier of North Vancouver commissioned the construction of Shalan III by Thornton Grenfell in 1966. Grenfell was the designer of this line of yachts with the distinctive blue hulls. The hull construction started that year at Grenfell’s shop at 1615 West 2nd Ave., Vancouver, and this vessel was completed and launched early 1967. Alan owned and operated Shalan III until July 1984. In July 1984 I(John Fremont of West Vancouver) purchased Shalan III from Alan. I owned her until March 1992. In March 1992, I sold Shalan III to B. James Wensley of Vancouver. I lost track of the boat after the sale. James died in 2009 and his obituary mentions his boat was named“James Joyce” so I think he changed the name soon after the purchase. I believe your reference of B. James as the second name for the vessel is in error since James Wensley was often called B. James." |
