Anecdotes
On December 16, 1961 this vessel foundered near Maude Island, Nanoose Bay BC on voyage carrying a load of herring from Deep Bay to Steveston. Only an overturned dinghy and a floating lifejacket were later found by searchers. Lost were Captain Tom Wilson; Engineer Dave Falconer; Boyd Fuerst; and Bob Sherbourn. This vessel sent out SOS signals reporting that this vessel was going down about 15 miles northeast of Nanaimo. The last message heard (by the Adriatic Star) said "The dinghy has capsized. Three of the crew are in the water." Silence followed. They were thought to have been making for shelter at Maude Island, near Nanaoose Bay at the time of the tragedy. The crew left behind 12 children.
