Anecdotes
This vessel originally carried cargoes of pilchard oil in a 38,000 gallon tank. The oil was destined for the European market. Later this vesselcarried cargoes of pulp. On January 16, 1943 this freighter, under command of Captain Frank McMahon, foundered and sank in a gale approximately one-mile northwest off Cape Scott BC. this vessel was operated by Frank Waterhouse and Co. of Canada Ltd., Vancouver BC. Fifteen of her crew died and only two survived. This vessel had been bound from Port Alice to Vancouver with a cargo of pulp at the time of the incident. This vessel had developed a list, and when this vesselentered a tide rip this vesseltook on water making the vessel unmanageable. The survivors were: Ray W. Perry (Chief Officer) and Henry Gerbrandt (Quartermaster).
