In 1949 this vessel was launched without ceremony, approximate cost $0.26 million. this vessel operated on the Fraser River between Ladner and Woodward's Landing. Dave Bartle stated (24/02/2023) "I worked on the Saltspring Queen in the 1990's and copied the following information: Gross Tonnage 276.46. Reg Tonnage 197.25. Official number 190667. Main Engines (Vivian 6 cylinder 9"bore x 12" stroke) rated at 240 BHP (each) Air start. Auxiliary Diesel engines: (Vivian 2 cylinder 5 1/2" bore x 8" stroke) Air start. Aux #1 serial number 3597. Aux #2 serial number 3598. Auxiliary diesels driving generators: #1 built 1949, D24950, 15 Kw, 125 Amps, 120 VDC continuous @ 700 rpm. #2 built 1949, D24951, 15 Kw, 125 Amps, 120 VDC continuous @ 700 rpm. David Bartle, retired marine engineer."
