She was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy as H.M.C.S. Leaside and commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy 21/08/1944 to 16/11/1945. She was sold in 1946 and converted to the Coquitlam. She was renamed as Glacier Queen in 1950. In 1946 she was sold to Union Steamships Ltd., Vancouver BC. In 1958-1967 she was sold to the Alaska Cruise Lines Ltd., Vancouver BC. In 1973 she was owned by M.J. Stanley, Seattle WA USA. |

At the end of the Second World War this vessel was laid up in the ship boneyard at Bedwell Bay in Indian Arm BC. this vessel was capable of 16.5 knots with an endurance of 9500nm at 10 knots. This vessel had a complement of 8 officers and 112 other ranks. this vessel was acquired in 1944 as one of 12 vessel in exchange for twelve Canadian-built Algerine class minesweepers. In 1967 this vessel collided with the Nicherei Maru near Prince Rupert BC (her pilot was Captain Hill Wilson) $280,000 damage. In 1973 this vessel was proposed for conversion to a hotel and restaurant ship at Bethel AK. On November 08, 1978 this vessel sank in Cook Inlet AK USA. in January 1979 this vessel was raised, towed to sea and scuttled. |
