Anecdotes
On July 3, 1956 this New Zealand freighter was in a collision with the fishboat B.C. Troller (Captain Alf Styan), seven miles south southeast of Lennard island. Captain Alf Styan and his son Ken were riding at anchor when the freight hit them with a powerful glancing blow damaging their entire superstructure. This vessel was rolled over on her side but was righted in a damaged condition. This vessel reached Port Alberni where this vessel was rebuilt and returned to service. The Waitemata did not stop.
