Anecdotes
On May 1, 2012, the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) was informed that an old abandoned pleasure craft, Emerald Tide, was sinking near the fuel dock at Port McNeil on Vancouver Island. On May 25, PWGSC awarded a deconstruction contract to Jenkins Marine Ltd. of Esquimalt. As a result, the Emerald Tide was towed to Esquimalt and demolition was completed on June 22. After further investigation, it was ascertained that the owner of Emerald Tide has no exigible assets. In light of this finding, the Administrator concluded that additional expenditure of funds to recover the amount paid in compensation to the Coast Guard would not be reasonable. Accordingly, on October 7, 2013, the Administrator closed the file.
