Anecdotes
Bill Carey (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 05/06/2019) stated that "The Straits Conveyor was an open hopper barge. Conveyor belt system below decks for off loading." A Victoria Daily Colonist article in 1959 stated "In an incident at Chemainus this vessel became unstable during unloading and turned over dumping 3,500 tons of coal slag into the harbour. this caused a small tsunami which swamped dozens of vessels in the harbour."
