This vessel made her maiden Arctic voyage in 1986. The George Pearkes (CCGS) and the Martha Black are sister-ships which alternate every other year in Western Arctic service, both classified as Light Icebreaker-Navaids Tenders commissioned in 1986. this vessel was built in Vancouver BC and based at Victoria BC where they acted as aids to navigation tenders on the Pacific coast in the interval year. In 1988 her Master, Captain R. Mellis, made an East to West Transit of the Northwest Passage. In 2004 this vessel was based at Quebec QC. |
