He was appointed as a Midshipman RCN (With seniority dated 01/09/1921). He served with the RN for Training 1921. He was appointed as a A/Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1924). He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1924). He was appointed as a Lieutenant (E) RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1926). He served in NSHQ 1928. He served in HMCS Champlain as Engineer Officer 1931. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (E) RCN (With seniority dated 01/01/1934). He served in HMCS Stadacona for HMC Dockyard 1934. He served in HMCS Skeena as Engineer Officer and Engineer Officer "D" Western Sub-Division 1935. He served in HMCS Fraser as Engineer Officer 1937.
