He was living in Toronto ON Canada a the time of his recruitment into the navy.

He served in the RCM (Transferred to RNAS) He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS. He was apppointed as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS. He served in 10 (RNAS) Squadron.

Anecdotes
He departed on patrol in a Naval 10 Squadron Sopwith Camel. Foul weather forced a return and he came down out of the mist and low cloud in a spin over the aerodrome.
