Before joining the Royal Naval Air Service, he was a medical student at the University of Toronto. He learned to fly at the Curtiss Flying School.He was a medical student, at the University of Toronto. He attended the Curtiss Flying School in Toronto ON up to 29 November 1915 (68 minutes); to the Curtiss Flying School at Newport News VA. He was awarded ACA Certificate 409 on 9/02/1916. |

He was appointed as a Probationary Flight Sub-Lieutenant RNAS (With seniority dated 29/02/1916) in Ottawa ON. As of 26/03/1916 he served at Portsmouth; 12 May 1916 at Crystal Palace; On 25 May 1916 he served at at Chingford; 6 August 1916 at Eastchurch; On 24 August 1916 he transferred to No.3 (N) Wing (until 31 January 1917 according to Wing roll of aircrew; He served with No.3 (Naval) Squadron and No.203 Squadron, 26 September 1916 to 24 September 1918. He was appointed as a Flight Lieutenant (Temp.) RNAS (With seniority dated 01/10/1917). He served in #3 (RNAS) Squadron. He had 9 enemy airplanes destroyed by himself, three destroyed in conjunction with other pilots, ten down out of control by himself, two shared out of control victories, and one enemy plane captured. He served in Home Establishment, 24 September 1918; to No.204 TDS, 11 November 1918; to Unemployed List, 12 March 1919. (Transferred to RAF) 1918. He was appointed as a Captain RAF. He served in #203 (RAF) Squadron. (He was demobilized.) |
