Biography
In 1920 he became an Apprentice on board the Canadian Explorer. He served with the Canadian Merchant Marine. He served with Canadian National Steamships. He served in the Lady Somers as First Officer and then as Relieving Master. (He was qualified as Master Mariner).
 
Military Service
He was appointed as a Lieutenant RCNR (With seniority dated 11/07/1933). He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 01/01/1940. (He was mobilized for World War Two service 14/09/1939). He served in HMCS Comox (In command) 1940. He served in HMCS St. Clair (In command) 1940. He was appointed as an A/Commander (Temp.) RCNR 1942. He served in HMCS Saguenay (I) (In command) 1942. He was appointed as a Commander (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 01/07/1943). In 1943 he served in HMCS Chatham as Commanding Officer. He served in HMCS Qu'Appelle (I) (In command) 1944. (He was demobilized.) He was appointed as a Commander RCN(R) (With seniority dated 24/11/1948). He was appointed as a Captain RCN(R) (With seniority dated 01/07/1950). IN 1950 he served in HMCS Scotian as Commanding Officer. (He was retired.)

Citation for the DSC: Wallace, Dickson Carlisle, Acting Commander, RD - Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) - RCNR / HMCS Saguenay - Awarded as per Canada Gazette of 9 January 1943 and London Gazette of 1 January 1943. "For gallantry and distinguished services before the enemy. Acting Commander Wallace has consistently over a long period in command of His Majesty's Canadian Ships and as Senior Officer of a Convoy Escort Group, performed invaluable work. His leadership and aggressive attacks have provided an inspiration to those serving under his command."
