He was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 13/09/1939). He served in the Winnipeg Division RCNVR 1939. He served in H.M.S. King Alfred (Officer Training Establishment) 1940. He served in HMS Lochinvar for Minesweeping Course 1940. He served in H.M.S. Skudd V as Executive Officer 1940. He was appointed as a Lieutenant (Temp.) RCNVR (With seniority dated 16/09/1941) (Later backdated to 1940). He served in H.M.S. Svana (In command) 1941. He served in HM LCI (L) 302 (In command) in 264th Canadian LCI Flotilla for Operation Neptune 1944. He served in HMCS Matane.
