He was originally from Yarmouth, NS, but moved away from home a few years before WWI to British Columbia, where he worked in the merchant marine. He was described as a Machine Fitter at the time of his enlistment in Victoria BC. (It was noted at the time that he had 3 years service in the Merchant Marine). After the war he was a member of the Navy Club in Victoria and he is buried at Royal Oak Cemetery there in an area for deceased servicemen. |

He was appointed as a Temporary Engineroom Artificer RCN (With seniority dated 08/12/1915). He was appointed as an Engineroom Artificer (RNCVR) (With seniority 01/10/1916). (He was demobilized). |
