Military Service

He joined the RCAF in 1931. Wing Commander RCAF. He was appointed as a Group Captain RCAF. He was appointed as a Air Commodore RCAF. He was appointed as an Air Vice Marshall RCAF. He was appointed as an Air Marshall RCAF. He was appointed as a Vice-Chief of the Air Staff 1951-54. He was appointed as a Deputy Minister of the Department of National Defence 1955-60. He was appointed as Chairman Chiefs of Staff 1960-64. He was appointed as an Air Chief Marshall RCAF. He was the first Chief of the Defence Staff 1964-66. He presided over the unification of the three Canadian armed services.
