Biography |

After merchant service and service in the Royal Norwegian Navy. He was Mate to Christian Klengenberg in the Arctic 1924 in the Old Maid. He joined the RCMP as a Constable in 1928. In 1940-42 he made the First West to East Transit of the Northwest Passage in the RCMP Schooner St. Roch. The vessel circumnavigated North America in 1944 making an East to West Transit of Northwest Passage. Superintendent RCMP. He commanded G-Division in Ottawa 1949-61. He retired in 1961, first to Lunenburg NS and then to Vancouver BC. He retired from the RCMP in 1961. He was the first recipient of the Massey Medal of the Royal Geographical Society of Canada. He was a member of the Thermopylae Club in Victoria BC 1939. |
