Biography
He was a Master Mariner in 1900 with Union Steamships Co. Vancouver. He qualified as a BC Coast Pilot in 1913. He was President of B. L. Johnson, Walton Co. Ltd. 1921. He was the Lloyd's Agent for British Columbia in 1924. He served as the Commodore of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club 1928, 1929, 1936. He was the President of Westward Shipping Ltd. (Johnson Walton Steamships Ltd.) in 1946.
 
Military Service
He was appointed as an A/Lieutenant (Temp.) RNCVR (With seniority dated 04/08/1914). He served in HMC Submarine CC-2 1914. He served in HMCS Shearwater II (For duty with submarines) 1914. He served in HMCS Shearwater I 1914. (His appointment was terminated and he was transferred to the RNVR 07/05/1915) 1915. He was appointed as a Lieutenant RNVR 1915. HM Submarine H-8 (In command) 1915 (For duty with H.M.S. Dolphin (Depot Ship)). (He is reputed to have been the first RNVR officer to have commanded a Royal Naval submarine) (Transferred to the RNR). He was appointed as a Lieutenant RNR 1915. He served in HM Submarine H-8 (In command) 1915. He served in HM Submarine D-3 (In command) 1916. He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander RNR 1916. He served in HMS Ambrose for HM Submarine E-54 (In command) 1917. He served in HM Submarine H-15 (In command) 1918. He was appointed as a Commander RNR 1919. (He was demobilized on 24/04/1919.) (Transferred to RCNR). He served on the Royal Canadian Navy Advisory Board 1938-39. (Mobilized for World War Two service). He was appointed as a Commander (Temp.) RCNR (With seniority dated 01/09/1939). He served in HMCS Naden as Naval Officer-in-Charge Vancouver 1939-41. He served in HMCS Preserver (In command) 1942. He was appointed as a Captain RCNR (With seniority dated 01/07/1943). He served in HMCS Preserver (In command) 1942. (He was demobilized in 1944.)
