Biography
She was a partner in the Halifax office of the lawfirm of McInnes Cooper. In 2010-2011 she was President of the Nova Scotia Bar Association.
 
Military Service
In 1976 she was appointed as an Officer Cadet (ROUTP) (NR). In 1976-1977 she served in HMCS Scotian for ROUTP. In 1977 she served in the ROUTP for NROC (Esquimalt) for Training. She was appointed as an A/Sub-Lieutenant (NR) 1978. She was appointed as a Sub-Lieutenant (NR) 1979. She was appointed as a Lieutenant (NR) 1980. She was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander (NR). In 1995 she was appointed as a Commander (NR). In 1995-1998 she served in HMCS Scotian as Commanding Officer. (She was released.)

Anecdotes
She was the Vice-Chair of Commissionaires Nova Scotia’s Board of Governors, and formerly sat on the Minister of National Defence’s Advisory Board on Gender Integration and Employment Equity in the Canadian Forces. In 2009 she was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was a recipient of Lexpert’s Zenith Award, which recognizes leading women lawyers in Canada.
