He graduated from McGill University (Canada), M.D., C.M., in 1960. He did his residency and post-graduate training at the Royal Victoria Hospital (Montreal), Montreal Children's Hospital, and Los Angeles Children's Hospital respectively. He was board certified in pediatrics and sub-board certified in pediatric hematology- oncology. After discharge from the U.S. Army, he moved his pediatric practice to the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, where he expanded into the specialty treatment of children's cancer. He had served as chairman of the Department of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic; also assistant and then full clinical professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Moving to Portland, he was chairman, the Department of Pediatrics, Maine Medical Center, with a professorship in pediatrics with the University of Vermont. Dr. Dyment later moved to New Orleans to become director of the Student Health Service at Tulane University and professor of pediatrics at Tulane University Medical Center. He also served as vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at Tulane University Medical Center. Dr. Dyment published over 100 medical papers and research articles, principally in adolescent medicine, sports medicine, and pediatric oncology. He was author of Cancer Answers, a national distributed weekly column on cancer prevention; was the invited speaker at over 60 regional and national meetings. His medical honors include election as Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics, election to the American Pediatric Society, where he served on the Society's Sports Medicine, and Residency Review Committees. He was designated 'Master Clinician' by Contemporary Pediatrics medical journal in 1991.
