He was appointed as an Engineer Commander RN (With seniority dated 05/03/1906). He served in H.M.S. Essex 1911. (Lent from the RN for Service with the RCN), He was appointed as an A/Engineer Captain RN (With seniority dated 24/06/1916). He served in HMCS Niobe as Addional for Naval HQ as Consulting Naval Engineer 1916
