He was a training ship boy at the time of his recruitment into the navy.

He was appointed as an Ordinary Seaman RNCVR. He was appointed as an Able-Seaman RNCVR. He was appointed as a Leading Signalman RNCVR. He served in HMCS Niobe. (He died on active service).
