He was appointed as an Able-Seaman RCNR 07/06/1915. In 1915 he served in HMCS Diana (Depot Ship). In 1915 he served in HMCS Niobe (Depot Ship). In 1916-1917 he served in HMCS Niobe for HMCS Hochelaga. (He was released 05/04/1917 at his request) (He re-enlisted 17/10/1917) (CFR) He was appointed as a Mate RNCVR (With seniority dated 17/10/1917). In 1917 he served in HMCS niobe (Depot Ship). He was appointed as a Temporary Skipper RCN (With seniority dated 08/01/1918). In 1918 he served in HMS Victory for Training. (He transferred to RCN 08/06/1918) He was appointed as a Skipper RCN. In 1918 he served in HMS Vivid. In 1918 he served in HMCS Niobe (Depot Ship) as Additional. In 1918 he served in HMCS Guelph for HMCS C.D. - 9 (In command).
