(He was qualified as a Master Mariner.) In 1933 he was a member of the Thermopylae Club in Victoria BC.

He was appointed as a Temporary Chief Skipper RNCVR (With seniority dated 15/05/1917). He served in HMC T.R.-4 (In command) 1917. (He was demobilized.)
